Pineapple whip: Editing EXERCISE
ScavengeR HUNT
For: Groups of 1-2
Difficulty: Beginner
Objective
This exercise reinforces the material from the video coach DVD series, specifically Volume 3: B-Roll. Students should be able to recognize different shot types and better understand their usefulness in an edit.
Points to emphasize
Every shot must have a beginning, middle, and end.
Pacing is everything. Cutting too fast can seem hectic. Cutting too slow can make the edit drag.
Equipment: Computer, editing software, headphones
Assignment
Students must create a video of the following shots, in this specific order. Each clip of b-roll can only be used once in their edit. The final video should be 25-35 seconds in length.
Tight of Hula dancer
Wide shot
Vocal Nat Sound pop
Low Shot
Shot with Depth
Tight shot with nat sound
Linking Shot
Angled shot
End with a three-shot sequence of making whip
Example
We suggest waiting until after the students are finished to show the example.
