The following exercises and assignments use footage from The Mudhouse Raw footage packs. Teachers can access the raw footage files in the “Download” tab above. Students can download the raw footage files from the student page.

Exercises

Students compile an edit of nat sound pops. This exercise shows how and why we shoot nat sound in the field.

In this exercise, students learn how to marry two separate sound bites and hide the resulting jump cut with b-roll.

In this fun and challenging exercise, students watch an edit of the mudhouse story and try to recreate the edit using the same raw footage.

ASSIGNMENTS

Students choose a sound bite, write a voice over introducing the sound bite, and cover the voice over with relevant b-roll.

Students use only the clips available in the raw footage pack to create a 30-45 second story with the focus, “it’s too hot for coffee”.
